A Beka Academy's Christian Doctrine Review

by Mandy
(Burban)

Visitor Abeka Academy Review: We have been using A Beka for 7 years now. I have been pleased with their curriculum for the most part, but would like it even better if they didn't weave their plan of salvation into their subjects.

We are members of the church of Christ and believe what the New Testament has to say about baptism being a condition to our salvation. A Beka only tells their children to say a prayer and then they will saved. They also use instrumental music in their Bible songs for Bible class, which were never authorized in the New Testament, since they were told to "sing" and not play.

They also teach in their classes the Christ was born on Christmas Day even though their is no Biblical record of that date.

I love their streaming video program, I just don't like their doctrine that they are so very vocal about. I wish there were more choices out there.

Response to Doctrine Review

It is a Baptist curriculum. Therefore any customer would have to expect Baptist doctrine. I am also from the Church of Christ but I chose Abeka for educational reasons and don't mind the doctrinal differences. If I thought that was an issue, I would choose another program. Honestly, the way Abeka teaches seems much more mainstream with evangelical doctrine than Church of Christ. If the differences are important, then best to go with something specific to your denomination or something free of Biblical teaching entirely.

A Beka can't please everyone's beliefs, they will simply say what they have studied and believe is accuarate, and they in my opinion, offer GREAT and interesting Bible classes.
