ABEKA Homeschool DVD Curriculum
Visitor ABEKA Homeschool DVD Curriculum Review: During the 2010 -- 2011 school year I used the DVD/videotape program from ABEKA and found it to be very difficult to use for my son who was in eighth grade. Each subject was 40 to 50 minutes in length and filled with many topics that sometimes were overwhelming in number.
Additionally, the homework assignments were too long many times. In particular, I found that the history homework assignments were especially long in length. Additionally the history teacher presented a somewhat boring video class. The science class was better-the teacher was very good at explanations, but again too many details were taught.
The English tape was pretty much worthless and taught very little about English literature elements such as story plot, story conflict, story resolution, genre, characterization, symbolism, foreshadowing, metaphors, etc. The math videos were fair but I had hoped for more clear and concise explanations on how to perform mathematical functions.
Overall I think that the ABEKA Academy was to detailed, boring, lacking concise and Clear information, and did not work out well for my son. Many of the tapes were outdated and were made in the 90s, even before my son was born. We did get much laughter out of some of the old outdated hairstyles and clothing.
Sincerely, Mrs. P. -- upstate New York
