After the Weaver Homeschool Curriculum

by Judy Oster
(Traverse City, Michigan)

Visitor Review: What happens after they graduate from Weaver and Homeschooling?

Curriculum For PreK-12th Grade

First, let me say Weaver works! Both my children were trained to be independent thinkers, creative, and research what they wanted to know. They asked questions and sought answers that fit and made sense.

My first choice would have been to use the curricula that matched public school style as that was what I knew. However,I chose the Weaver Unit Studies as I wanted my children, first of all, to be sound Biblically and look at the world through the lenses of Scripture. Just as we can't put our faith in compartments and not apply it to each aspect of our lives - neither can we separate all disciplines of learning from how God views it.

I enjoyed teaching the Weaver curriculum even though it was completely against my personality. I would rather have given them seat work and walked away. Weaver is hands on and definitely helps knit the family more tightly, simply because all ages are studying the same topics. Yes, at first, you will spend a bit more preparation time. That extra time diminishes with experience and is off-set by all children studying the same topics.

Now. We are a family of normal intelligence with a good work ethic. We work till we are done and don't give up. If it is wrong we go back and fix it.

Because the Weaver homeschool curriculum is different than other choices out there, I was nervous. I played it safe and had them tested (Stanford Achievement Test) each year. They always were above grade level and many times post high school.

How did it end? Both my children received college scholarships. One had an associates degree paid for and is in law enforcement. The other had a bachelors degree paid for and went on to complete a masters degree and is a special agent for NCIS.

How do I think Weaver helped my children? Easy, to walk with God, be confident and think out-of-the-box!
