K12 Georgia Review

Visitor K12 Georgia Review: Georgia offers the K12 online school for grades k-10 (adding 11 & 12 over next 2 years) for FREE. This is the first year we are using it, and my daughter is in the 9th grade.

The curriculum is VERY CHALLENGING, and, in my opinion, not for a below average or average student. It is much harder than regular public school. We knew this going in, and therefore were not surprised at the amount of work. This is one of the reasons we chose this curriculum...public school is far to easy for most kids. In our state approximately 75% of college students lose their HOPE scholarship. We are hoping the rigorous curriculum that k12 offers will keep us out of that statistic.

My daughter was a straight A student in brick and mortar school K - 8. She was not an honors student. I placed her in honors math and biology this year, and regular classes for everything else. She will not get straight A's with this curriculum, but I am ok with that as it is much more difficult. In the long run, this will be to her benefit.

A big plus for k12 is the ability to tailor the curriculum to your student. Although lessons are provided, they can be substituted with other "in the field" type of things you do at home. The teachers are very open to any and all ideas.

Another great thing is that the classes are taught live. If you cannot watch them at the scheduled time, they are recorded for later access.

My daughter usually schools from 9 to 3 each day, homework included. One or two days may be longer, depending on biology labs. This is actually much shorter than B&M school, so I don't understand why some people have reviewed 6 hours a day as too long. In B&M, school was 7+ hours a day then 2 more of homework!!

This program is not for those looking for easy A's. It is for seriously motivated kids wanting to prepare for college.
