K12 Pros and Cons

by Talena
(Shawnee, OK)

Visitor K12 Review: I loved the curriculum. It found it to be very thorough but very intense and laboring. You are required to complete 6 1/2 hours of school a day.

For a homeschool child, that's a lot of work!

When a child goes to public school, a lot of the time is spent going from place to place, subject to subject. I found that my 8 year old was sooo exhausted after the continuous seat work that it was no fun and very stressful.

If you are a person who doesn't mind being tied down for the whole day, this might work for you but I like the freedom homeschool has to offer.

Cheap Shot?
by: Anonymous

HoneyFern is nothing like K-12 and is not really competition (different philosophy, different size, different scope - everything). The review of K-12 isn't a "cheap shot"; the positives are listed along with the negatives.

Say No to K-12

K-12 does not allow for differentiation at all, and much of the work is busywork or repetitive. The literature is abridged and there are few, if any, critical thinking questions.

The only good points are a decent elementary math curriculum and a great social studies book series. Other than that, there is not much to recommend it.
