Our Shurley Grammar Review

by Leigh
(Knoxville, TN)

Visitor Shurley Grammar Review: Unfortunately, I am not a fan of the Shurley Grammar curriculum at all. My family has experienced two major drawbacks.

First of all, my children were very good at memorizing the sentence patterns. However, when I separated them from the sentence patterns and simply asked for them to find the nouns, verbs, etc. they had a great deal of difficulty when it was not in the context of the sentence patterns.

Secondly, I found that this curriculum was weak in teaching writing skills. If you purchase this curriculum, you will need to supplement your writing program.

English was always an easy subject for me, but this curriculum only seemed to complicate things.

We used it for grades 3-5. It might work well for others, but our experience was not positive.
